Hi, I’m

Gary Allen Shann

Gary Allen Shann caught stage fever at an early age. He put on shows with friends for neighborhood gatherings and sang along with records while plucking his toy guitar. He memorized film soundtracks in their entirety. At weddings, he snuck up to the bandstand, banging on the drums or garbling into the microphone until chased away. He volunteered for every school show. The Beatles’ arriving when they did provided the outlet he was looking for…

For many families, including his own, getting by was a struggle. He would have to teach himself how to play the guitar christmas and birthdays wouldgo toward equipment. If that wasn’t enough, loans from band members (and empty pay envelopes) covered the rest..
The most talented generation in history was about to learn that rock ’n’ roll was anything but a free ride..

The Book

In February ’64, a new sound filled the airwaves. Four young Englishmen arrived on American shores. They were the British Wave’s spearhead, sparking the most prolific and diverse era in music history before or since. Thinking all they needed were guitars, drums, and a few voices that could carry a tune, thousands of thirteen-year-olds jumped on the bandwagon as the fever spread like wildfire across America. It would be a time like no other..
